Song of the Day: The Fighter by Gym Class Heroes feat. Ryan Tedder
Hello all! Hoping everyone had a nice Father's Day. I had a pretty low-key weekend and I got a good amount of reading and research done. I've just been wanting to kick back and read for quite some time. With it being Father's Day weekend, I still had distractions, but hey, I'll take what I can get.
How has everyone been doing on submissions? I need to start submitting again. I've gotten decisions on almost everything I've sent out in the past month. I like to have at least one piece out in the world. If you can't submit to multiple places, try just picking one. Here's a look at what's new this week.
1. The New Guard 2012 Contests
Knightville Poetry Contest: $1,000 for an exceptional work of narrative and/or experimental poetry. Three poems per entry. Up to 300 lines per poem. Judged by National Poetry Series winner, JEANNE MARIE BEAUMONT.
Machigonne Fiction Contest: $1,000 for an exceptional work of literary and/or experimental fiction. Submit up to 7,500 words: anything from flash to the long story. Novel excerpts are welcome if the manuscript functions as a stand-alone story. Judged by Novelist and Essayist, RICK BASS.
Entry fee is $15 for both contests and the deadline is July 18, 2012.
2. Emergency Press International Book Prize
Emergency Press is taking entries of book-length manuscripts for its 2012 contest. They are considering books that are cross-genre or multimedia. 3. The 2012 Autumn House Poetry, Fiction, and Nonfiction Contests
All full-length collections of poetry 50-80 pages in length are eligible. Fiction and nonfiction submissions should be approximately 200-300 pages in length. Prizes per category include book publication, $1,000 advance against royalties, and a $1,500 travel grant to participate in the 2013 Autumn House Master Authors Series in Pittsburgh.
