Push by Sapphire

Hello all! This weekend I finished up the first 2,000 words of my Craft & Form Thesis! It was a HUGE relief! Now just 2,000-3,000 more to go! I did finish reading Push and I have to say that I actually really enjoyed it. If you are someone who is picky about grammar, then this probably isn't the book for you. Here's the thing about Push. It is the story of a sixteen year old girl named Precious who is abused emotionally, physically, and sexually by both parents. She has two children by her father. Precious is also unable to read or write. The story is told from her perspective, so you can probably guess what that's like. I was able to overlook all the bad grammar and misspelled words because the story was so compelling. Besides, the only reason the novel even has bad grammar is to demonstrate the character's inability to read. It's a quick and easy read it's a great novel for those of you who aren't sticklers! :)

What I am Reading Now

I am now reading the Novel, Push by Sapphire. Let's see how it goes!

What I Have Just Finished Reading!

Sadly, I have been neglecting my blog. Personally, I blame it on this craft and form thesis. I don't even have a teaser Tuesday post because I am too busy focusing on getting this technical part of my degree, out of the way. (Although I must admit that I have been avoiding Teaser Tuesday anyway). Having said so, there is some good that is coming out of this whole craft and form business. There are some classics that I still have not read but would like to. One of those classics was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Since my topic will be covering heroines, why not start with the most notable. My cousin told me when I was much younger, that this was her favorite book. I wondered why, but after reading the novel, I see it! It has everything. There's mystery, romance, betrayal, excitement, even a bit of a creep factor. I absolutely love the novel now, and I highly recommend it.

Blog Under Control

Ok everything is under control, I'll have to play with my layout some more tomorrow. I'm too tired to blog now...until tomorrow....

Help Me Get this Stupid Shabby Chic Pattern Off of My Blog!

Today, I have been struggling trying to change the template on my blog! Instead of blogging about Opportunities in the Great Big Literary World, I have spent countless hours trying to fix my blog! And Why Can't I just get that stupid shabby chic template off?! GRRRRRRR! What have I done?! I need help. If anyone out there knows how to get rid of this pattern, please advise.

Writing Topic: Writer's Block

Writer's Block is an issue that we will forever be discussing. I don't think it will ever go away. There can be so many reasons why we get writer's block. Maybe there is something happening in our daily lives preventing us from writing. Or maybe the stresses of the office are getting in our way. Maybe we simply have too many things to balance, and we feel like we don't even have time to sit down and think. For the past couple of months I myself have been dealing with issues in my personal life, and I have had writer's block. I have come to the conclusion however, that it could possibly be just a state of mind. I have found that if you just sit down and stare at the blank page long enough, the words will come. If you find that nothing is coming to you, try stepping away for a few minutes, but make sure it is only a few minutes. Be sure to go back and at least attempt to write something down.

I was talking with a close writer friend of mine, and I was telling her how I felt like I couldn't write anything. She suggested that I turn on my radio, or my itunes. She told me that for her, hearing a song can trigger an idea for a story. Sometimes even just a title of a song might help her come up with something to write. I thought, "Duh! Why didn't I think of that?!"

How do you handle writer's block? Do you have any special rituals that help you get your creative juices flowing?
